Fight Fire Ants!

Fight Fire Ants!

Dear Minister,

I am deeply concerned about invasive fire ants spreading across our country because federal, state and territory governments have failed to properly fund eradication efforts.

They are already breaching containment in Queensland. If they get out they will devastate our environment, health, agriculture and way of life.

A fire ant invasion will be worse than the cane toad. They will decimate wildlife populations, cost our economy billions every year, cut agricultural output and threaten human health.

I am asking you to support an urgent funding boost to $200-$300 million per year. This is in line with what the government’s National Red Imported Fire Ant Strategic Review report has said is needed to eradicate fire ants by 2032.

An overhaul of the program is also needed to ensure fire ant eradication is achieved.

We need these extra resources in the fire ant fight this year to prevent any further fire ant spread.

Any further delay to increased funding for eradication will see them breaking containment and taking over all of Australia.

We have a small window of opportunity left to eradicate fire ants.  For the sake of our wildlife and way of life, please don’t fail Australia on this.
